Configuring Microsoft Windows Defender alongside Antivirus

Windows 10 and 11 feature integrated protection via Windows Security (Windows Defender). Learn to manage settings alongside retail software:

Coexistence and Automatic Disabling

When you install a third-party suite (e.g. McAfee or Bitdefender), Windows Security is designed to detect the suite and turn off its own real-time scanning automatically to prevent system slowdowns. You do not need to edit system registries manually.

Configuring Firewall Notifications

Ensure that either the Windows Defender Firewall or your new antivirus software firewall is active—not both. Review firewall settings inside control panels to confirm a secure configuration.
